How threat intelligence can help to improve enterprise security?

These days, there is no surprise that threats and attackers are being advanced rapidly and there are hard to match it. Newly sophisticated vulnerabilities and threats are constantly discovered and exploited to gain access to enterprise’s systems and then sophisticated attackers can hide in there and take valuable information. Threat intelligence can help enterprise security teams to manage and control advanced attacks proactively. Adding threat intelligence can complement a threat assessment and provide critical information against latest attacks in an enterprise environment. According to the Gartner, the definition of threat intelligence is evidence-based knowledge, including context, mechanisms, indicators, implications and actionable advice, about an existing or emerging menace or hazard to assets to that can be used to inform decisions regarding the subject’s response to that menace or hazard. Recently, enterprises try to adopt IT security risk management technologies to better control security, but these methods have not evolved to manage security risk effectively. Threat intelligence helps to control security and respond more quickly to newly sophisticated attacks. Threat intelligence feeds and information streams can be integrated into various security appliances. For example, known hacker IPs can be entered into firewall and blocked and malicious downloaded files can be identified network monitoring tools. The additional threat information can be used to further analyze different security systems and also enterprise can share the data and use for their purpose. Threat intelligence is the potential for enterprise to defend against sophisticated attacks by using gathered information before they are ever launched. Enterprise can monitor threat intelligence feeds for attacks against specific software or system and they can determine if it is using vulnerable software or system and then deploy mitigation proactively. As threats grows ever more complicated and targeted, enterprise should take opportunities to adopt new technologies against attacks and threat intelligence will provide to more effective security to enterprise.
